Sail Greek Islands

The Ionian Islands are the most relaxing of all sailing locations in Greece because of the shelter the mainland offers and is referred to as the ‘spiritual home’ of relaxed Mediterranean sailing.

The Ionian Islands are well known for their beautiful sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, charming villages and dockside tavernas making the area perfect for short-hop sailing vacations.  Each Ionian island has a distinct character and between them they offer everything you could wish for in a Greek Island sailing holiday.

The Ionian Islands are off the western coast of Greece and stretch from Corfu in the north to Zakynthos in the south. The area is principally made up of 7 islands. From north to south they are Corfu, Paxos, Lefkas, Meganisi, Ithaca, Kefalonia and Zakynthos. We will also visit the Greek mainland and berth in Mourtos to enjoy the old town’s cobblestones and tavernas for the night.

In the ‘Eptanisa’ (seven islands) you are never short of a bay, taverna or beach to spend a relaxing day or evening.

Corfu – Day 1

Legend has it that Poseidon fell in love with the Nymph Kérkyra (The Greek word for Corfu), kidnapped her and then brought her to the Island, hence the name Kérkyra.  Homer described the island as the Garden of Eden.

If you haven’t already wandered the old town, we suggest you do before we set sail to Mourtos and you too will fall in love with Kérkyra’s (Corfu) charm.

Paxos – Day 3

After our leisurely morning breakfast, we make for an early start to the Island of Paxos and the western side of the island to explore the hidden sea caves.  Once we have finished exploring the legendary caves we will continue to circle the island, finding a private beach to swim, snorkel and relax while we have lunch before heading to port and finding a taverna to feed and refresh us.

Mourtos – Day 2

After arriving at our first destination, we will secure a berth in time for the sunset.  Here is the best place for a meal and bottle of wine as you take witness to the sun setting and putting on a magnitude of colours, including a blood red sunset in August against the backdrop of Corfu.

The town quay is a little artist haven in the evening as the street vendors and artists stake their patch along the waterfront in front of the yachts, displaying and selling their talents and wares.

Lefkas - Day 4

Today we sail!  We will depart at the crack of dawn to get a head start on a magnificent day’s sailing!  This is Greek sailing at it’s best with mild winds, clear skies and crystal clear waters as we set a course for Lefkas!

After a long days sailing, we’ll settle in for the evening in a small town and watch the sun set over the yachts in the harbor and soak up the atmosphere including the sights, smells music wallowing though the village.

Meganisi – Day 5

We’ve had our sailing day, now it’s a beach day! Meganisi has amazing, untouched virgin beaches and we’ll explore the inlets looking for our very own private beach.

After a day in the sun, we’ll head to the marina to find a local taverna before the sun sets on another perfect day.

Ithaca – Day 6

We have another superb days sailing ahead of us as we approach Ithaca, the legendary home of the Greek poet Homer's heroic Odysseus.  After exploring the coastline and more untouched beaches (only accessible by boat) we will head into town with enough time if you choose to explore the island further by foot.

Kefalonia – Day 7

We’ll head straight for Sami in Kefalonia to give you the choice of exploring the Melissani Cave Lakes, lounging on the glorious beaches, exploring the island at your own pace, shopping for souvenirs or staying on board, the choice is yours.  With so much choice you can either have an adventure day or a slower paced afternoon before we embark on the selection of tavernas and cafes in the evening.

Zakynthos – Day 8

After leaving the island early we will decide whether we will be visiting Shipwreck (Navagio) Beach, the Blue Caves at the East of Cape Skinari or both!

We will then take berth for the final night of your holiday in the Zakynthos port where you can choose to have a quiet night or night the famous nightclubs the island has to offer.
